Any type of therapy is intended to relieve or heal some form of distress. People typically understand that Physio or Physical therapy is geared towards healing the body via movement and talking therapy is centred on healing the mind through verbal expression.
M.I.T works to heal the mind, body and spirit holistically via talking therapy and creative spiritual expression.
Our Intercultural trauma informed psychotherapy approach is an integration of humility & spirituality principles & philosophy with psychological understanding and application. We integrate various approaches to counselling and have a focus on working with the effects of childhood, generational, racial and sexual trauma primarily for people from African, Asian, Caribbean backgrounds and those that identify as ethnic minorities or People of Colour (PoC).
We acknowledge that traditional and widespread approaches to talking therapy or psychological therapies are often taught and delivered from a Euro-centric perspective; this approach can sometimes fail to meet the needs of people often described as being from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds (BAME); as cultural sensitivity and true empathetic understanding is limited.
Our approach is tailored to each individual, which makes it a unique and subjective experience. Cultural identity, ethnicity, racialised trauma, faith and spirituality are some of the key aspects of consideration that we integrate into the therapy process to support with your mental health and well-being needs.
